The Manawatu Golf Club actively encourages women's golf and whether you are new to the sport, or a seasoned professional you will find the Club a welcoming place to play.

Members may choose to play casual golf with other like-minded players, or join in on the Club competition days where the focus is collegiality while there is some form of competition being played as well.

Have a look at the following information and feel free to contact any one of our women's committee members listed below if you have any further questions - they would welcome your call.

New to Golf?

We understand that learning a new sport is a challenging and sometimes daunting prospect. We do everything we can to provide a fun and encouraging environment for you to learn.

We recommend new golfers take part in one of our beginner clinics held throughout the year, or join our annual "Discover Golf Clinic" that is held in February each year. These clinics are specifically aimed at players who are new to the sport and a great way to learn in a friendly and fun environment. Over the last 4 years we have had approximately 120 women participate in these clinics and many have gone on to join as members.

Individual lessons are also available if you prefer one on one instruction, or as follow up instruction after one of our clinics.

Competitive Play

For members wanting to play competitive golf, there are a number of opportunities available.   Weekly Club Competitions are held from February to November each year, with a small number of trophies also played for over the summer season.

The Club fields teams in the Pennant series and currently has women's teams in the Weekend, District, Silver and Championship Pennant divisions.

Several Open events are held at the Club each year offering our women the chance to compete on their home course against players from other Clubs.  Our Women's Open Day is held around May/June each year.

Playing Rights

Your membership category will determine which days you are entitled to play golf.   Have a look at our membership page for more information.

9 holers
9 hole players can choose between one of two Club days - Wednesday or Saturday mornings.   Each group is mixed (men and women) and you can either play for fun, or choose to compete for a range of trophies throughout the year.
Our Senior 9 hole women play on a Tuesday morning.

18 holers
18 hole players can choose between one of three Club days - Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday mornings.   Each group is women only and you can either play for fun, or choose to compete for a range of trophies throughout the year.

Social Aspect

We are fortunate to have a very active group of women members at the Club who are passionate about the sport they play, and the social aspects that surround it.   It is usual practice for players to head into the Clubhouse for a drink and a bite to eat after a round and this is a great opportunity to meet other players in a relaxed environment.  Friendships are formed and our members can often be found traveling to other Clubs in the district to play in tournaments and Open days or simply to enjoy a round at another course.

Our women's committee do a great job of managing Club golf, tournaments and events throughout the year, and coordinating volunteers to help with events run at the Club.

The club runs a number of social events throughout the year which are always well supported by our women's division.  Events are held for members as well as the wider community and are advertised through our members page and/or the Hokowhitu Cafe and Bar.  The Women's Annual Meeting and dinner is a highlight on the social calender and an event not to missed.
